Well after Tuesday's story broke about the Head Coach of Grambling State's Volleyball Team, Chelsey Lucas, cutting the entire team, we finally got an update on what's going on and it's not a good one either. Yesterday April 6, 2022, Grambling State's official volleyball twitter tweeted out a picture and directions on what is needed for an open tryout. Now for me this comes as a shocker because instead of letting the tryouts be for the volleyball players that got cut, they made it open to ANYONE!!!!

This is a nasty move on Coach Lucas part especially after cutting the entire team. It also seems like Lucas is getting backing from athletic department when it came to the cutting of the entire team. In an article written by, HBCU Sports, who broke the story, Grambling State's Athletic Director, Trayvean Scott had this to say, "Just as the transfer portal empowers student-athletes, our coaches are also empowered to make the decisions they deem necessary to advance their programs."
According to Kori Johnson, of KLSA News 12, GSU Athletics Communications Director, Brian Howard, said the move was not previously discussed, which is okay, because changes like these are at the coaches discretion.
Now in my final opinion on this matter, like I said earlier this is a completely nasty move on behave of Coach Lucas, and for the athletic department to be okay with this is even worse. Grambling State who finished with a record of 11-17 and lost in the first round of the SWAC Volleyball Tournament, now has the potential to be worse than what they already were. I hope the girls that got cut take their opportunity to transfer out, because there is no way in hell I would come back to play for a coach like this. These girls deserve better and I hope they find a new home that will treat them with the respect they deserve and come back and kick Coach Lucas's butt for what she has done to them. To all the volleyball girls that got cut, don't take this as a slight to your playing ability, look at this as an opportunity to play for a coach that really wants you and wants you to be a part of their team. Always remember KARMA IS A B****!!!!!!!!
