Well, Well, Well, I thought I was going to be done for the night here on this lovely March 30th, but in typical sports fashion, breaking news can happen at any minute, and this time it comes in the form of another important Tampa Bay Buccaneer retiring. Big Bruce Arians is retiring from being the head coach of the Bucc's for a front office roll. While I won't go into details about the craziness that is the 2022 NFL offseason, Coach Arians just added to one of the best offseason's we have seen. Tampa Bay has went from Tom Brady retiring in February to having him un-retire a month later, to now Bruce Arians retiring in the same month Brady decides to come back. Could you imagine how mediocre Tampa Bay would look if both of these important pieces gone, but now with Brady back and Arians going to the front office, it will be interesting to see how much of a mix-up this can cause.
While I will never count out Tom Brady no matter how much I dislike him, I can still see him doing what he needs to do as an elite quarterback in the NFL. With Brady throwing for over 5,000 yards and 43 touchdowns, his production might fall off a tad due to a new coach being put in place but it won't be the end of the world for Buccaneer fans. On the bright side, Tampa Bay is promoting Defensive Coordinator, Todd Bowles, as the new head coach. This promotion makes Bowles, another addition to the short list of African-American and minority coaches in the NFL. Round of Applause for the Buccaneers for that!
In 8 years as a head coach in the NFL, Arians finished with a record of 80-48, a 2x NFL Coach of the Year, and has the highest win percentage with the Buccaneers. Arians other accomplishments include winning 2 Super Bowls as member of the Pittsburgh Steelers coaching staff and being the oldest head coach to win a Super Bowl, when he led the Buccaneers to a 31-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, in Super Bowl LV. Enjoy your retirement Coach Arians, and I hope you enjoy your new role as an executive for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers!
